| Solitude Echoes to the Sound of Songs In The Park 22 May 2012 The sun shone down on the beautiful natural surroundings of Solitude Park on Sunday 20 May as “Songs in the Park” a local community initiative led by Banbridge Clergy Fellowship, featuring a selection of popular music and hymns, was enjoyed by a crowd of almost 500 people. The event featured performances by Banbridge Ladies Community Choir, Musical Director Norman Brown and included guest performances by the choir from Donard Special School, and pupils Aisling Cull and James Weir. Other guest artists were soprano Lynda Barrett, Irish musican Brendan Monaghan and Ivan Black on keyboard with Banbridge Concert Orchestra. The finale of the event was the Orchestra playing “Hootenanny” after which the Musical Director, Norman Brown, was presented with a surprise cake for his 60th birthday. Happy Birthday, Norman! The council would like to thank everyone for their donations to the Council Chairman’s nominated charity, “Donard to Disney”. Just short of £1,000 was raised for this very worthwhile project. This popular event was made possible thanks to funding secured from Banbridge District Council’s Good Relations Programme. |
