Council to Host St. Patrick's Day Concert in Solitude Park 26 February 2010
The Council is set to host a free outdoor concert in Solitude Park, Banbridge on Wednesday 17 March between 2pm and 4pm in celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day. This event is being supported by the PEACE III Southern Partnership with funds provided by the EU’s Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.
Families throughout the district are invited to come along and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of traditional entertainment themed around the Irish and Ulster Scots cultures.
“Set against the stunning green backdrop of Solitude Park, this year’s event will include performances by well-known local acts and it will showcase the best of our Irish and Ulster Scots traditions,” commented a Council spokesperson.
Among those to perform at the concert will be Eistigi Linn who won the best overall group section at last year’s Banbridge BuskFest event. They will be followed by the Rooney Family, an extremely talented group of young musicians consisting of four sisters and two brothers from Mayobridge. Also there will be dance displays by the Closkelt Highland Dancers and the Curran School of Irish Dancing.
To complement the entertainment programme, there will be a wide range of activities for young children, including funfair rides, bouncy castles, face painting and balloon modelling demonstrations and craft workshops. Refreshment stands will also be available for those feeling a little peckish.
