Drumadonnell Pupils Improve their Volleyball Skills
08 February 2011

As part of the six week course, pupils in P5 to P7 are learning a new set of skills required for playing volleyball including passing, blocking, serving and digging.

This is the first time that they have been given a chance to play this Olympic sport at school, and it is proving to be really popular with the young participants.

The Council has organised these sessions as a result of its involvement in the Active Communities programme, which aims to increase participation of under-represented groups in sport.

As part of Active Communities which is funded by Sport Northern Ireland, communities throughout the council areas of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon can request a coach to provide free coaching in a wide range of sports and physical activities.

School children can benefit from the many sports provided by this programme, and other schools in the district are invited to apply.

In addition to volleyball, other activities available to both school and community groups include Gaelic games, physical activity, girls’ soccer, outdoor pursuits, dance, badminton, squash and multi skills.
