Committee System

The Council’s committee system is made up of four main standing committees, sub-committees and the statutory council meeting.  The Council carries out all its business through this committee system and all decisions made at committee meetings must be adopted at the next statutory council meeting.

Statutory Council Meeting  This Meeting takes place at 7.30pm on the first Monday of each month and is attended by all 17 councillors. Members of the public are welcome to attend this Meeting. However, it is recommended that members of the public interested in attending advise the Member Services Section so that seating requirements can be accommodated. 
Leisure and Development Committee  This Committee meets at 7.00pm on the second Monday of each month and consists of 11 councillors plus the Chairman as an Ex-Officio Member. It deals with leisure, tourism, economic development, arts and community relations.
Public Services Liaison Committee  This Committee meets at 6.30pm on the third Monday of each month and consists of all 17 councillors. It deals with planning applications, roads, water and sewerage, housing and health issues. Members of the public are welcome to attend this meeting. However, it is recommended that members of the public interested in attending advise the Member Services Section so that seating requirements can be accommodated.
Environmental Services Committee
 
This Committee meets immediately after the Public Services Liaison Committee on the third Monday of each month and consists of 12 councillors including the Chairman as an Ex-Officio Member. It deals with environmental health, technical services and building control. 

Policy and Resources Committee

 

Audit Committee 

This Committee meets at 7.00pm on the fourth Monday of each month and consists of 11 councillors including the Chairman as an Ex-Officio Member. It deals with finance, human resources, policies and procedures and registration services (births, deaths and marriages).

This Sub Committee meets approximately once a quarter and consisys of four Councillors. It deals with Audit, Accountancy and Risk Management issues of the Council.

Health Care Sub-Committee   This Sub-Committee meets approximately once a quarter and consists of a minimum of 5 councillors. It deals with all aspects of health care provision in the local community.
Staff/Disciplinary Committee
 
This Committee meets as and when required and consists of 5 councillors including the Chairman as an Ex-Officio Member. It deals with special staffing matters.
Grievance/Appeals Committee  

This Committee meets as and when required and consists of a total of 5 councillors. It deals with all issues to do with grievances and appeals. 

Special Sub-Committees  Sub-Committees can be formed from time to time in order to deal with specific matters as they arise.
