Equality

Banbridge District Council, as a democratically elected body representative of all the people who live and work in the Banbridge District, is conscious of the importance of equality of opportunity in the discharging of its functions and in the civic leadership it provides.

Section 75 and Schedule 9 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 places a statutory obligation on public authorities to carry out all their functions with due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity and have regard to the desirability of promoting good relations.

In order to help achieve its statutory obligation, the Council will, as appropriate, undertake screening, carry out equality impact assessments and monitor policies to establish their impact on the promotion of equality of opportunity and good relations.

Revised Equality Scheme 2011-15

Following a recent consultation period, the Council has submitted its Revised Equality Scheme 2011 – 2015 to the Equality Commission for approval. The scheme outlines a plan for ensuring that consideration of equality issues is central to policy formulation and decision-making within the Council.

We welcome enquiries from any person/s or organisations wishing to be added to the list of consultees at any time.

If you have any queries regarding the scheme, or wish to find out more, please contact:
