The District has a high standard of education with six post primary establishments delivering high quality education to approximately 3,890 students. Academic performance at GCSE level and A-level is above the Northern Ireland average with a higher proportion of students achieving five or more GCSEs and three A-levels with grades A-C. The percentage of school leavers leaving without qualifications is lower than the Northern Ireland average. Approximately 28.4% of school leavers continue on to higher education and 33.2% continue on to further education. Females outperform males at A-levels and are more likely to continue on to higher and further education. The split between gender and educational achievement is less pronounced at GCSE level. The Southern Education and Library Board (SELB) is responsible for providing educational services within the District.
