According to the latest 2001 census data, the Banbridge District has approximately 15,188 homes. Owner occupation status is very high with 75.9% of the area’s housing stock falling within this classification. Housing stock in the area is expected to increase to around 20,000 by 2015. In 2005, the average house price was £146,000, an increase of 54.2% since 2001 and 20.4% since 2004. Comparably the average house price in Northern Ireland in 2005 was £134,000.
The Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) had a current stock of 1,984 in the District in March 2004. A House Condition Survey carried out by the NIHE in 2001 has indicated that unfitness levels have decreased from 8.9% in 1996 to 5.3% in 2001. This is still above the Northern Ireland average of 4.9%. The District rate struck for 2006/07 is 159.90p for domestic use and 22.59p for non-domestic use.
